ABSTRACT

Objective: This study focused on the systematic literature measurement and visual analysis of treating COVID-19 with combined Chinese and Western medicine to explore the development status, research hot spots and trends, and cutting-edge dynamics. It provides data, information support, and development references for treating COVID-19with combined Chinese and Western medicine. Methods: Three major databases of China National Knowledge Infrastructure(CNKI), Wanfang Data, and China Science and Technology Journal Database were used as data sources to retrieve the relevant literature on the combined Chinese and Western medicine for the treatment of COVID-19 from March2019 to March 2022. Statistical analysis was performed using bibliometric methods and CiteSpace software. Visual analysis was performed on publishing trends, research institution cooperation, author cooperation, keyword co-occurrence and clustering, and research hotspots. Results: A total of 476 articles were included in this study, with the largest number published in 2020. Statistical analysis of published units showed that the cooperative relationship between institutions was discrete, indicating that the research on treating novel coronavirus with combined Chinese and western medicine was extensive. Hot spots in the research were mainly reflected in four aspects:coronavirus, diagnosis and treatment plan, combined Chinese and Western medicine, and epidemic prevention and control. Conclusion: The research theme of treating COVID-19 with combined Chinese and Western medicine dynamically changes with the epidemic development, which is guided by clinical efficacy. It mainly focuses on the formulation of diagnosis and treatment plans. The cooperation between authors and institutions is insufficient, and communication needs to be further strengthened.

ABSTRACT

Background: Plants, with their rich phytochemical treasury, are one of the main sources of drug development. However, a randomized search on plant sources for the discovery of phyto-chemicals with specified pharmacological activity is expensive and tedious. Therefore, it is logical to constrain the sources to increase success. In the recent four decades, the importance of traditional information has been recognized by the scientific community. Consequently, interest in field sur-veys for the documentation of traditional worldwide medicines has significantly increased. Method(s): Infectious diseases induced by pathogenic bacteria, fungi, or viruses have been one of the most common health problems for the public, for which traditional remedies have been practiced. Since laypeople could not distinguish the microbial origin of the infection, the remedies used for treatment could not be delineated. The aim of this study was first to search the plants used in Turkish folk medicine for such infectious diseases. The second step was to find scientific evidence in the online databases for the frequently quoted plants whether they may have potential activity against virus replication. Result(s): A reference survey on the most frequently quoted plants revealed that 16 out of 17 were shown to possess virucide or inhibitory effects on the replication of various viruses. Conclusion(s): Since each virus type may have a different viral replication pattern, further detailed in-vestigations should be carried out to reveal their exact antiviral potentials.Copyright © 2023 Bentham Science Publishers.

ABSTRACT

The use of alternative medicine helps to prevent the symptoms generated by Covid-19, among the methods is phytotherapy or herbal therapy, homeopathy acupuncture, among others, all with different functions such as moxibustion, for coughs, flu, lungs, pain body, breathing, etc. Although some people do not use it due to the few results in improving their health. In this article, the use of alternative medicine to treat symptoms of Covid-19 was analyzed through a quantitative exploratory approach, the population was taken through a simple random non-probabilistic sampling of 40 people from the Banos parish of Ulba between 30 At 60 years as results it was obtained that, among the most frequently used methods was phytotherapy with 65%, followed by homeopathy with 15% and acupuncture with 12,5%. It was concluded that it is important to know the benefits that contributes to health using alternative medicine such as medicinal plants to improve health and in this case to a virus that has affected and caused the death of countless people.

ABSTRACT

This study aimed to evaluate the perception of family caregivers in the care process of patients with COVID-19. This study was conducted on 19 family caregivers, who were selected using purposive sampling from 2021 to 2022. Unstructured interviews were used to collect data. The data were analyzed using the Kyngas conventional content analysis approach. The analysis of data led to three main themes, including unremitting efforts in physical care in the light of traditional medicine, accuracy, and intelligence in psychological attention and trying to maintain environmental health. According to the results, family caregivers provide high levels of self-sacrificing, continuous, and comprehensive, combined with fear and loneliness care in different dimensions with little or no support from the family, community, and health team.

ABSTRACT

The current COVID-19 pandemic, characterized by a highly contagious severe acute respiratory syndrome, led us to look for medicinal plants as an alternative to obtain new drugs, especially those with immunomodulatory abilities, capable of acting against the pulmonary infection caused by coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2). Despite medical advances with COVID-19 drugs and vaccines, plant-based compounds could provide an array of suitable candidates to test against this virus, or at the very least, to alleviate some symptoms. Therefore, this review explores some plants widely used in Peru that show immunomodulatory properties or, even more, contain phytoconstituents potentially useful to prevent or alleviate the COVID-19 infection. More interestingly, the present review highlights relevant information from those plants to support the development of new drugs to boost the immune system. We used three criteria to choose nine vegetal species, and a descriptive search was then conducted from 1978 to 2021 on different databases, using keywords focused on the immune system that included information such as pharmacological properties, phytochemical, botanical, ethnobotanical uses, and some clinical trials. From these literature data, our results displayed considerable immunomodulation activity along with anti-inflammatory, antiviral, antioxidant, and antitumoral activities. Noticeably, these pharmacological activities are related with a wide variety of bioactive phytoconstituents (mixtures or isolated compounds) which may be beneficial in modulating the overt inflammatory response in severe COVID-19. Further scientific research on the pharmacological activities and clinical utilization of these potential plants are warranted. ABSTRACT

The emotional and psychological dimensions of the Covid-19 pandemic would have to be further examined, especially by scholars equipped to explain the psychosocial impact of this situation on individuals and communities. The paper discusses a specific secondary effect of the public health communication system informing on the spread of the disease through statistics and numbers. For the strategic communicators to appropriately frame their key messages, understanding the variety of ways by which people may be affected not only physically, but also psychologically, by the provided data during a global health crisis is of outmost importance and would support the correct responses and adjustments to mitigate the inevitable anxiety. The comparison of the "mathematical" display of the pandemic with the rhetorical trope of "counting" present in a charm-type offers a fresh perspective on how disease is conceived and alleviated in different historical times, and how collective fears may have a strong impact on preventive behavior and resilience.

ABSTRACT

Background: This study has been conducted on confirmed COVID 19 positive patients (n = 55), who had come to Kallakurichi District of Tamilnadu state from one of the containment zones in Indian State of Maharashtra. Out of the 55, 8 (14.55%) patients were symptomatic and remaining 47 (85.45%) were asymptomatic patients. 47 patients who reached in their home land on 24th May and rest on 25th may 2020. All of them have been treated with integrated medicine treatment method. Materials and Methods: Everybody was quarantined from 27th may to 7th June 2020 at Mahabharathi Engineering College, Vasudevanur, Chinna salem Taluk, Kallakurichi District. Integrative Intervention Consisting of Vitamin C Tablet, Zinc tablet for 5 days, and Kabasura Kudineer 60 ml BD Before food for all days was the treatment given for all patients. Result: Among them, three of them had co -morbid conditions like diabetes and hypertension. 27.3% were female and 72.7% are male patients. Average age was 32.33 among the range of 14 to 65years. Conclusion: All patients including who has co-morbidity were completely relieved from the disease on the day of discharge. All symptomatic patients were asymptomatic with median time of 4 days IP admission.

[...]in Oregon and Florida, consumers can purchase CBD in their coffee.2 Following declassification of hemp as a Schedule I drug, a recent Gallup poll found that one in seven Americans use hemp-derived CBD products (although CBD derived from marijuana is still illegal under federal law and will not be addressed here). "3 CBD products are available at a variety of mainstream retailers including CVS, Walgreens, GNC, Kroger, Ulta Beauty, Abercrombie & Fitch, and American Eagle Outfitters.4 Industry research firms estimate that by 2024, CBD sales will exceed twenty billion dollars in the United States.5 Another study projects a twenty-five percent compound annual growth rate in the CBD edible market between 2020 and 2027.6 Many consumers rely on CBD to treat anxiety, pain, and insomnia.7 Other common usages include over-the-counter treatment for depression, muscle contractions, skin conditions, and digestive concerns.8 A third of pet owners have purchased CBD-infused treats, food, or other items for their cats and dogs, and purchases of CBD pet products are rapidly increasing as pet owners begin to return to the office following the nationwide lifting of COVID-19 restrictions.9 Considering this clear market demand and the likelihood that states will continue to ease restrictions on sale of CBD and other hemp-derived related products, franchisors may find entering the CBD market an irresistible opportunity-either through creating a new franchised system that primarily sells CBD products or by adding them as a new or additional product line in an existing system. ABSTRACT

Background and purpose: Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) causes different symptoms. Mizaj or temperament in Persian traditional medicine is a specific feature of every human being. The aim of this study was to determine the relationship between Mizaj and severity of symptoms in patients with COVID-19. Materials and methods: A descriptive correlational study was performed in patients with symptomatic COVID-19 during recovery and interviews were carried out to record patients' symptoms (fever, cough, chills, etc.). Salmannezhad Mizaj questionnaire was used to determine the patients' temperament (warm, cold, wet, and dry). The number of symptoms in each patient was determined and the severity of symptoms was classified into three levels: mild, moderate, and severe. The relationship between Mizaj and COVID-19 clinical symptoms were assessed by Chi-square and Pearson correlation coefficients.

ABSTRACT

This research aims mainly to emphasize the contribution of indigenous tacit Knowledge of traditional medicine to treat COVID-19 symptoms in a traditional and Islamic context in Algeria. In order to do so, we proceed as follows. First of all, to find out whether traditional treatment delays the death of people affected by COVID-19, a survival analysis was carried out among a sample of 74 hospitalized patients at the University Hospital Center in a region located to the west of Algeria. Subsequently, interviews with 185 traditional healers from the same region were held to identify the plants on which these patients relied. Three main results emerge from our study: first, the use of traditional treatment helped prolong the survival of people with COVID-19. Second, we were able to identify 11 medicinal plants. ABSTRACT

Indigenous knowledge and practices suffer marginalisation when it comes to seeking solutions to social problems. The world misses out on the richness of this knowledge and practices and role that they can play. This qualitative existential phenomenological study explored experiences of African indigenous knowledge holders and practitioners on their views regarding solutions towards COVID-19 pandemic. Interviews were conducted through WhatsApp and face-to-face with ten participants and data were analysed thematically. The findings show African knowledge and practices that could combat COVID-19 in terms of restrictions, heat related remedies and plant related remedies, and how these knowledge and practices can be applied through ancestral, environmental, metaphysical and generational modes. Africa and the world could benefit from how indigenous people respond to diseases such as COVID-19 and adopt/adapt some of these knowledge and practices;indigenous knowledge and practices have a role to play by contributing solutions to the world's problems. ABSTRACT

Herbal plants are often used as alternative medicine because they contain active compounds for the treatment of diseases and disorders with minimal side effects, and are easily obtained from the surrounding environment. Some of them have antiviral activity. This study aimed to analyze the potential of phytochemical compounds in the leaf of "pangi" (Pangium edule Reinw) as anti-SARS-CoV-2 using molecular docking study. The drug- and lead-likeness properties of the selected compounds were obtained from the Swiss ADME and admetSAR online server tools. Molecular dynamics (MD) simulation of the selected ligand was carried out to validate the stability of the interaction. The results suggested that pangi leaves contain three compounds with remarkable binding affinities with Mpro (main protease) and RBD (receptor binding domain) were (5.beta.)pregnane-3,20.beta.-diol, 14.alpha.,18.alpha.-[4-methyl-3-oxo-(1-oxa-4-azabutane-1,4-diyl)]-, diacetate (PD), ethyl cholate (EC), and bis(3,5,5-trimethylhexyl) phthalate. Because EC will be metabolized in the body into cholic acid (Cho), this compound was then docked and validated using MD simulation. The compound has the best free binding energy (G) with SARS-CoV-2 (-7.1 kcal/mol with Mpro and -6.0 kcal/mol with RBD). Moreover, the compound is bound strongly to the active cavity of Mpro on Thr24, Thr26, His41, and Cys145 residues. The MM-GBSA calculation showed that the interaction of Cho with Mpro was higher than with RBD. According to the RMSD (root mean square deviation), RMSF (root mean square fluctuation), the radius of gyration (Rg), and intermolecular hydrogen bond (H-bond) analysis obtained from 50 ns MD simulations, Cho formed stable interactions with Mpro and RBD. The finding of this study indicated that Cho showed good anti-SARS-CoV-2 activity. The potential of the compound to inhibit the virus can serve as a starting point in the process of developing COVID-19 therapeutic natural medicine.

For thousands of years, plant based herbal medicines have been utilized by millions of people all over the world. Plant materials or products are used in different folk/traditional medical systems, such as the Chinese, African and Indian medical systems, like Siddha, Ayurveda, Unani, and Homeopathy. Tinospora cordifolia (TC) is a medicinal plant belonging to the family Menispermaceae. It is a big deciduous, climbing shrub growing prevalently in the tropical part of Indian subcontinent regions such as India, Pakistan, Nepal, Bhutan, Bangladesh and Srilanka, and in Myanmar, and China. Guduchi, Giloy, Shindilkodi, and Amritha are all the common names for this plant. Extracts from different parts of this herbal plant have been used to treat many diseases. In Ayurvedic medicine, extract from this plant is used for preparing "rasayanas", which is known to cure diabetes, skin diseases, allergic conditions, jaundice, cardiovascular diseases, rheumatoid arthritis, poisoning, and microbial infections. T. cordifolia has a many bioactive phytochemicals that have been isolated from its aerial parts and roots. Many bioactive principles have been reported from this plant which belong to various classes like alkaloids, aliphatic compounds, diterpenoid lactones, phenolics, flavonoids, glycosides, sesquiterpenoids, lignans, steroids and polysaccharides. T. cordifolia possesses medicinal properties such as antioxidant, antiallergic, antiinflammatory, antimicrobial, antiviral, antidote, antitumor, antileprotic, antispasmodic, and antidiabetic properties. The present review will provide a comprehensive therapeutic potential of T. cordifolia.

Background: Unani System of Medicine (USM) is one of the traditional systems of medicine practiced in India and the Indian subcontinent. It is a holistic system of health care based on inceptive principles applied by Hippocrates, Galen, and Ibn-e-Sina, the founders of present-day medicine. USM encompasses a distinct way of looking at the human body and it considers health to be the result of natural dynamic harmonious balance within the body. USM also recognizes the presence of inherent wisdom which is responsible for controlling all physiological functions, maintenance of health, restoration of health, and self-healing. This intrinsic ability of the body to restore health and the mechanism that activates the body's healing process is called Tabi'at/ physis. The ultimate goal of prevention of disease can be obtained by optimization of tabi'at/physis, increasing the host defense. It can be achieved through the implication of asbab-e-sitta zarooriyah which includes some Unani Regimenal Therapies also, fostering change in lifestyle habits resulting in good health. Aims: In this raging pandemic all the therapeutic strategies are based on destroying the agent, breaking the means of transmission and immunization. Although we are leaving behind a huge gap in maintaining the host defense even though it has a crucial role in disease dynamics. In this paper, we have attempted to highlight the concept of tabi'at/Physis and its optimization to prevent this disease and its transmission.

The global current scenario shows that COVID-19 has spread worldwide and drugs prescribed to treat the disease are under study. The imperative requirement of drugs to treat COVID-19 has made significant changes in the pharmacological industry. Discovering drugs for such a pandemic has been a crucial target, with standardisation, preclinical and clinical studies being conducted in all possible age groups. Siddha medicines have found their way in the treatment of COVID-19 largely and increasingly been accepted worldwide. Among such constant trials, implementation of the molecular docking process has helped to reveal the importance of different Siddha medicines in the first place as therapeutics to COVID-19. The Government bodies have also recommended these antiviral compounds to treat symptoms such as cold, fever, breathing difficulty and sore throat. This study aims to focus on to gather awareness on the impact of various Siddha medicines and their insights into molecular level to fight against Coronaviruses. As a result of this review, it was found that the phytochemical compounds present in various siddha medicines such as Kabasura Kudineer, Adathodai Kudineer, Maramanjal Kudineer and so on, have been docked with the possible target proteins of SARS-CoV-2 virus to disclose that they have potential action on the virus and declare to act as the candidate drugs in COVID-19 treatment.

Background: COVID-19 is classified as a janapadodhwamsa vikara in Ayurveda (epidemic disease). In Chapter 3 of Charaka Samhita: Vimana Sthana, the concept of an epidemic is discussed. "... even though there is dissimilarity in the physical constitution of human beings, still there are such factors which are common to all individuals and vitiation of these factors leads to the simultaneous manifestation of diseases having the same set of symptoms leading to the destruction of countries. Factors which are common for all the inhabitants of a country are air, water, location and seasons." 3/6] Vimana Sthana Janapadodhwamsa is a condition in which the environment - air, water, land, and seasons - has been tainted, resulting in the simultaneous occurrence of a sickness among huge populations (epidemic) and the destruction of human habitations. The three medications used to treat COVID-19 are all traditional medications. According to the texts, each of them acts in the following ways: Sudarsana Churna: Treats all three doshas and all forms of fevers, including Agantuja jwara, Sannipata jwara, and others., Talisadi Churna: heals Jwara, svasa, kasa, aruchi (loss of taste);Vaataanulomana (aiding the normal flow of vayu), Dhanvantara Gutika: remedies Svasa, Kasa;Vaataanulomana (aiding the normal flow of vayu), Dhanvantara Gutika: cures Svasa, Kasa;Vaataanulomana (stimulates digestion). Aim & Objectives - Study the awareness about use of Ayurved medications as an adjuvant therapy in COVID-19 pandemic in urban population. Material & Methods: Subjects will be collected from common population who have been tested positive for COVID-19. BACKGROUND: The COVID-19 pandemic has become a major cause of concern for the healthcare profession. Indian medicine practitioners, such as in, allopathic systems are used for treating the infection, but unfortunately there is no specific medicine for COVID-19. The Ayurvedic fraternity is looking forward to the active involvement in the prevention and cure for COVID-19. AIM: The aim of this study was to assess the awareness about COVID-19 symptoms and precautions among practitioners of traditional Indian medicine like Ayurveda, Siddha and Homeopathy. MATERIALS AND METHODS: A survey was conducted among 112 individuals practising Indian Medicine through google form. The responses were recorded in the SPSS software version 25. The responses were recorded in the form of bar graphs and pie charts. RESULT: Among the 112 individuals 99.9% respondents exhibited high level knowledge about COVID-19 symptoms and precautions. Most of the respondents chose home remedies and natural ayurvedic medicines and syrup for boosting their immunity and to keep themselves healthy and fit.
